Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach weighs in on Prince Rupert's upcoming renoviction situation

MP Taylor Bachrach has made note through Facebook of the
pending evictions forresidents of the Pinecrest Town homes

Calling the news of the pending eviction of 47 Prince Rupert families as devastating, Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach has issued a short statement on the situation on the renoviction issue for residents of the Pinecrest Townhomes through his Facebook page.

In the note, the MP offers up the services of his constituency staff to lend assistance for those in need, offering to the connect them with support and advocacy services.

He also notes that he has been in touch with both MLA Jennifer Rice and Mayor Lee Brain, though he does not indicate what measures if any have been considered from those consultations.

The evictions became a significant topic for discussion in the community over the weekend following the word that the residents of the Pinecrest Townhomes on Immanuel Street were set to be displaced as new ownership prepares to renovate the number of buildings of the complex.

The evictions will serve to exacerbate the already tough rental market in the community, with few rental units available, and little progress seen in the construction of new or replacement units for those that have been removed from the city's housing stock.

Update:  There will be a meeting for renters of the Pinecrest Townhomes Thursday night at 5PM at Fisherman's Hall in Prince Rupert.

You can review more of the city's issues related to Housing from our archive page here.
