First Nations leadership on Haida Gwaii issues travel advisory for Island citizens
The Council of the Haida Nation, Old Massett Village Council and Skidegate Band Council have all joined together to issue an advisory and recommendation that Island citizens avoid unnecessary travel off island as concerns mount over the COVID-19 situation.
Posting their notice to the CHN website and Social media feeds the collective notes that the precautionary decision was made after considering advice from the First Nations Health Authority.
Making note of the limited emergency resources available, they observe as to how any exposure to COVID-19 could have significant consequences on Haida Gwaii.
In addition to the advisory for residents, they also provide other COVID-19 notes on their Facebook page which offers links to further information.
The Haida Gwaii information is just the latest round of advisories and updates to be delivered to residents of the region, yesterday both Lax Kw'alaams and Prince Rupert provided for updates for their community on local notes related to COVID-19.
Regional Health Authority Northern Health is directing residents of Northern BC to the BC Centre for Disease Control for updated information on the status of the virus.
