Prince Rupert RCMP make public access changes in wake of COVID-19

The Prince Rupert RCMP have suspended public access
to some services at the local  detachment in the city

All front counter services have been suspended at the Prince Rupert RCMP detachment at Sixth Avenue West and McBride Street, part of the police service's response to COVID-19.

In a statement issued earlier today, Corporal Devon Gerrits outlined that such services as: Civil Fingerprinting Services, Criminal Record checks, some Police Information checks and found property, along with other elements will not be conducted until further notice.

Our priority continues to be community safety and security and we are taking these measures to help ensure our core policing duties will not be impacted. We appreciate your continued support and understanding.-- Corporal Devon Gerrits, Prince Rupert RCMP

The measures put in place DO NOT impact on 9-1-1- service or to phone calls to their non emergency police line of 250-624-2136.

Those services remain in effect and are offered 24 hours a day, 7 days week.

The Prince Rupert detachment also reminds residents of their online crime reporting tool for those case files that do not require a police response.

You can review the full statement from the detachment here.
