Prince Rupert School District, others in Northwest to gain funding for repairs

The British Columbia government has allocated 900,000 dollars towards School District 52, the funding to be used for a pair of School Enhancement programs for schools across Prince Rupert.

The financial distribution from Education Minister Rob Fleming on Monday making for the delivery of 217 million dollars in funding for projects across the province.

The Minister framed the funding announcement of Monday, as part of the BC government's commitment towards climate issues and their Clean BC program.

“Tackling climate change is critically important for all of us, and our school system can play a part in helping cut carbon pollution. That’s why we’ve significantly increased maintenance funding to help districts better maintain schools, improve energy efficiency and work to provide the best possible learning environments for students.”



In Prince Rupert the funding will be used towards the creation of inclusive washroom upgrades at
École Roosevelt Park Elementary, Lax Kxeen Elementary, Conrad Elementary, Pineridge Elementary, Prince Rupert Middle School, Charles Hays Secondary School and Pacific Coast Secondary School.

Also to be funded from the money are network switch upgrade projects at Charles Hays Secondary, Prince Rupert Middle School as well as at Roosevelt, Conrad and Pineridge Elementary Schools.



Other School Districts in the Northwest to receive funding include:


Bulkley Valley School District -- $1,167,014

Coast Mountain School District -- $1,285,000

Stikine School District -- $630,000

Nechako Lakes School District -- $1,492,621

Nisga'a School District -- $1,215,000

Central Coast School District -- $800,000

School District 50 which serves Haida Gwaii receives $1,641, 483.

Those funds to be allocated towards renewal of the membrane for Renewal of SBS Membrane at Sk'aadgaa Naay Elementary.

Funds are also destined for a Roofing replacement at Gidgalang Kuuyas Naay Secondary

The District has also been provided funding for their Bus Acquisition Program, allowing them to purchase a new bus for District use.
