Port Edward receives two responses from recent concerns for Provincial Government

The District of Port Edward has had some success in raising a pair of issues with the Provincial Government, with two Ministers from the BC NDP government provided written responses to recent correspondences from the District.

The replies more general in nature than specific to the issues, but at least note that the District's concerns have been heard and notice given to the concerns.

One if the issues that the District outlined  put some focus on the concerns that they have had when it comes to recent road conditions between the coast and Terrace, a topic that they raised with the Minister of Transportation back in November following highway closures related to rock falls at that time.

Minster Rob Fleming responded to their letter, with one of his own in Mid December, Mr. Fleming noting of the province's focus to ensure that Highway 16 will receive the highest level of maintenance service to keep the route safe and in oo condition for travellers.

The other are of recent note for the District was an internet and phone outage suffered by the community in October, the District having forwarded a letter to MLA Jennifer Rice seeking some details on what kind measures may be in place to support future situations, particularly those that impact on access to emergency services.

Deputy Premier Mike Farnworth, who also holds the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Portfolios provided for the reply to the District's inquiries. Mr. Farnworth noting of the Connected Coast project and how it will help alleviate future incidents by providing for additional service to the region.

His letter also notes of a range of other options to alert the public to any concerning incidents, observing of the Provincial Alert Ready program and even the option of the province's Amateur radio volunteers.
