The Province of British Columbia is celebrating the opening of Crane's Crossing Supportive Housing in Prince Rupert today |
It's a big day for North Coast Transition Society and their Crane's Crossing program, with the facility at Five Corners gaining its official opening today, with both Housing Minister Ravi Khalon and North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice making note of the latest in supportive housing available in the province.
“We recognize the urgent need to get people off the streets in Prince Rupert, and we know that while shelters offer a warm and dry place, they are not enough. Crane’s Crossing is one of the many steps our government is taking to prevent and reduce chronic homelessness in the province.” -- Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing.
Some background towards the province's work with NCTS towards the housing was provided as part of today's statement.
The Province, through BC Housing, partnered with the NCTS to operate the building at the site of the former Raffles Inn at 1080 3rd Ave.“The homes at Crane’s Crossing are already making a significant difference in lives of people in Prince Rupert. With private facilities in each room and 24/7 supportive services, this is the kind of project that can break the cycle of sheltering outside.
Thank you to the North Coast Transition Society (NCTS) for their part in this as the whole community benefits when people receive the supports they need to rebuild their lives.” -- Jennifer Rice, MLA North Coast.
More comments on the project from Mayor Herb Pond and NCTS executive Director Christine White can be explored through the Provincial statement here.
