New air ambulances planned for BC Emergency Health Services

A significant upgrade is in the offing for the Air Ambulance service in the province, with a contract award for Ascent Helicopters in Parksville on Vancouver Island to provide six new Air ambulances for a cost of 544.4 million dollars.

The timeline towards introduction of the new helicopters is set for the fall of 2024 and Spring of 2025,  the BC EHS service out of Prince Rupert is listed as one of the locations for one of the six new craft.

The new helicopters will be replacing the current fleet of older craft, providing for more sophisticated technology and life-saving equipment onboard.

The Helicopters to be used will be the Leonardo AW169, the Italian build helicopter has a longer frame and capacity.

The contract was awarded in mid February. Ascent will be taking over the Air Ambulance Services from Helijet which is the current provider.
