City of Prince Rupert outlines process ahead for Day Care planning following Council discussion last week

City of Prince Rupert staff have followed up on last week's City Council session to move quickly on the process ahead towards amendments for zoning towards Day Care Facilities, posting an advisory today that outlines why the city won't be holding a public hearing when it comes to the initiative.

With the Notice posted this morning to the City's Social Media stream,  focusing much attention to the 'waiving of the requirement for Public Hearing' element of Council's decision from last Tuesday. As well as how the proposal aligns with the Official Community Plan and Child Care Assessment and Action plan work of the past.

Last week, we outlined the scope of the discussion and decision made by Council when it comes to Day Care facilities, with those who spoke at the Council session highlighting the need for additional Day Care spaces in the community.

At the time, Councillor Cunningham did express some concerns over a blanket approval of sorts towards the zoning amendment, though he as well remarked on the need for additional Day Care options for the region.

As the City notes: Inquiries and comments may be submitted in writing, and must be received by Rosamaria Miller, Corporate Administrator by no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 9th, 2023.

Should you wish to comment you are asked to mail your submission to City of Prince Rupert, 424 3rd Avenue West Prince Rupert, B.C. V8J 1L7 or email to rosamaria.miller@princerupert.ca.

The Zoning amendment likely comes back before Council at their next Public Council session of June 12th.

More notes on civic themes can be explored through our Council Discussion archive.
