The water's on the rise across the Northwest, and with a changing situation at hand with more concerns potentially to come this weekend, the City of Terrace has taken some steps in preparation to address the risk to the community.
The first step towards that proactive work comes with the opening the City's Emergency Operations Centre.
The steps taken so far and what could come in the days ahead were noted in this information release from the City of Terrace from Tuesday.
Of note for those from outside of Terrace with plans to visit the city over the weekend and into the next week is the Closure of the Ferry island campground, as well as the Fisherman's Memorial Park on the outskirts of the city.
Towards keeping the public up to date on the situation, the City of Terrace has created an archive page for all information releases and important notes related to the current flood status for the community which you can review here.
The City of Terrace is also relaying information for residents and visitors through their Social Media page.
The latest statement from the Rivers Forecast Centre was issued today and it continues to note of a High Stream Advisory for many rivers of the Northwest including the Skeena.
Warming temperatures and the prospect of rain this weekend is making for a forecast that notes flood conditions could emerge through the rest of the week and over the weekend.
Steady warming this week is leading to increasing snowmelt rates and river runoff. Temperatures are expected to reach the low-20C range for valley bottom locations on Wednesday.
On Thursday and into the weekend, the region is expected to experience more unsettled weather, with the potential for rainfall to add to river runoff.
Current hydrologic modelling is indicating the potential for a period of high flows through the region into the weekend. These forecasts include high-end estimates that there is a risk that flood conditions emerge over the weekend.
There is still uncertainty over the weather and river responses into the weekend, and this advisory will be upgraded if required.
The full statement can be reviewed here.
