MLA's Week: May 31--June 2, 2022

A session which evolved into a rather contentious period for the Legislature came to an end on Thursday, as the province's elected legislators wrapped up their Spring work and made their plans for the return to their home constituencies and a mix of work and vacation ahead until the fall.

The listings for the Northwest contingent are somewhat light this week, with only Skeena MLA Ellis Ross engaging in much of the debate of the Legislature.

However all three MLA's were busy through their Social media feeds, with a range of themes explored and messages delivered through the week.

Some items of note on the week from the Legislature of interest to the northwest included some thoughts on the housing stock in Prince Rupert from Minister David Eby

As well, the province announced an agreement with the Federal Government towards decriminalizing small amounts of restricted drugs, a program that will start in January of 2023.

It was a topic that all three Northwest MLAs spoke to through their Social Media platforms, with the NDP members for the most part following the government talking points, while Skeena MLA Ellis Ross provided for a more person review of the topic.

The Courts have put the province back into the mix when it comes to an ongoing dispute over the Nasoga Gulf Lands of Portland inlet.

That following a court injunction that sends the three parties, the Nisga'a Nation, Lax Kw'alaams Band and Metlakatla First Nation back to the discussion table to try to resolve the issue of who will control the territory in question.

The end of the spring satire also made for some satire through the popular No Context BC Twitter feed on its final day
