Interest building towards Federal Skeena-Bulkley Valley Conservative nomination

Residents of northwest BC may have noticed some political message making popping up on their Social media feeds over the weekend. 

That with the first of what likely will be many more introductions to candidates for nomination for Federal Skeena-Bulkley Valley Conservatives.

The first candidate to seek the nomination out of the gate is Doug Dobrenski from the Bulkley Valley, He  introduced himself to Conservatives through a social media post in September.

He chose familiar Conservative themes of personal freedoms, the need to rebuild the economy  and create more opportunity.

Dobrenski has expanded on his opening notes through his social media stream, meeting with a number of party members, mostly in the Bulkley Valley and Terrace region to this point.

To find out how far into their pre nomination process the Skeena-Bulkley Valley Conservatives may be, the NCR contacted Ralph Weick, President of the local Conservative riding association. 

He outlined the current status of the nomination process and what may come in the months ahead.

"The Conservative Party of Canada has opened Skeena-Bulkley Valley for nominations. Our Electoral District Association (EDA), the Skeena-Bulkey Valley Conservative Association, has started the process of identifying suitable nomination contestants with the intention of having them complete the application process. 

Once candidates have completed the process and been accepted as nominees, should it be required, the EDA will hold and election in which party members living in the riding will have the opportunity to elect the next Conservative candidate for Skeena-Bulkey Valley. 

That will occur at a time that is yet to be determined."

When they get to putting forward their list of potential nominees they may have a fair volume of potential candidates to choose from.

Interest in the Party has increased in recent months, some of that helped by a visit by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to Smithers and Terrace last month.

Just prior to the Poilievre visit, some national polling had indicated that the Skeena-Bulkley Valley riding would be one that could see a change in representation  come the next election 

Both of the Conservative leaders' rallies were well attended affairs and served to generate some significant interest towards the federal scene, though carrying the interest ahead could be something requiring some regular maintenance.

At the moment, the NDP and Liberals have an agreement the  Supply and Confidence Agreement, it's a mechanism that has kept the minority government in business since 2022.  

If it remains in place, it would mean that voters would not go to the polls until 2025.
