BC and some Prince Rupert organizations celebrate Small Business Week


This week puts the focus on Small Businesses across the province, with the Province kicking off Small Business week with a statement from Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, the Minister noting of the importance and value that small businesses bring to their communities.

"This year, Small Business Week is Oct. 15-21. I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the many entrepreneurs and staff whose hard work and determination greatly benefit communities throughout B.C. Everybody has a favourite local shop or restaurant that holds a special place in their hearts, and these important places are integral parts of our communities. 

There are more than 500,000 small businesses in our province that make up 98% of businesses in B.C., meaning roughly one in 10 British Columbians are small business owners or entrepreneurs. In 2022, small businesses contributed 34% to B.C.’s GDP, the highest in Canada."

The Minister's statement also noted of the challenges that the business community has faced coming out of COVID and with the current economic climate around the globe.


Locally the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce has yet to make note of the week or to share any of their plans for the week which in support of business that  comes to an end on October 21st.

Other supporters of Small Burins however have been quick to make note of the even including Community Futures of the Northwest  and Hecate Strait Employment  Development Society


Prince Rupert based, Northern Savings began their week of celebration with some helpful advice on how to stay safe from computer phishing.


Northern Savings is also making plans for Credit Union Day which takes place this Thursday.


As the week moves forward, we'll make note of other celebrations for the small business community on this page.
