North Coast Labour Council endorses two candidates in civic election, announces plans for All-Candidates Forum October 3

Update: the North Coast Labour Council has re-scheduled their All-Candidates Forum to Tuesday October 4th, avoiding a conflict with the scheduled October 3rd Prince Rupert City Council Session.

Two names on the list of four for Mayor and  eight for city Council have made the grade with the North Coast Labour Council, with the local labour organization offering up its endorsement of one Mayoralty candidate and one for City Council.

In the Mayor's race, the Labour Council has endorsed Chrystopher Thompson, while incumbent councillor Barry Cunningham has the endorsement from the organization.

The endorsement process included a survey posted to the Labour Council's webpage back in June,  which invited  all candidates to complete for their consideration.

As the Labour Council explains it:

Endorsements of the labour council reflect a candidate’s support for working families, union-wage jobs for all workers, strong and effective public services that benefit the whole community, and other issues important to the labour movement.

Any delegates to the Labour Council who were candidates in the election were required to recuse themselves from the process of evaluation, as such, Chrystopher Thompson, who is Vice President of the North Coast Labour Council recused himself and did not vote in the process.

You can learn more about the Endorsements from the North Coast Labour council website.

The Labour Council is also making preparations to host an All-Candidates Forum in the first week of October, setting the date for Tuesday, October 4th, the event to take place at 7PM in the Multi-purpose room of Charles Hays Secondary School on Prince Rupert Boulevard.

You can learn more about how the forum will take place from these notes from the labour Council.
