City Council to start process of adoption of Permissive Tax Exemptions tonight

Members of Prince Rupert City Council will be asked to review and then introduce First, Second and Third Readings to the Permissive Property Tax Exemption Bylaw tonight, starting the process which has to be wrapped up by the end of October, in order for the list to be submitted to the BC Assessment Authority.

The night's work will start with a report from the Chief Financial Officer Corrine Bomben, who will outlined the features of this years Exemption plan.

The report also notes of the need to repeal the previous Property Tax Bylaw and an amendment prior to adoption for the 2022 version.

Of note, one property that of the Prince Rupert Pentecostal Tabnernacle which previously was exempt, has been sold with the new owner  not making application for the exemption for the new use.

That leaves fifteen other places of Worship up for an exemption, along with thirty other properties across the city owned or used by a range of organizations and groups up for review.

Some background on each of the properties seeking an exemption can be reviewed from Ms. Bomben's report to Council, which you can find on page 52 from  the Council Agenda available here.
