The Port Edward nominations were posted to the District's website and Facebook page following the 4 PM deadline and set the stage for what could be an interesting campaign to take Port Edward into the next four years.
The three way quest for the Mayoralty includes Knut Bjorndal who has been at the helm of civic governance in the community over the last four years.
The two contenders seeking to take his place as the top elected official for the District will be Shawn Pettit and Carl Schmidt.
Four seats are up for grabs for the District Council membership, with all three incumbents, James Brown, Danial Franzen and Christine MacKenzie seeking a return to office.
They face a challenge from Teresa Forster, Kevin Mudge and Colleen MacDonald , a curious twist to the campaign is that Ms. Forster has also been placed on the candidates list in the Prince Rupert Council race.
As we outlined in our Prince Rupert notes, the placement in both municipal races is allowed under election rules.
Stepping away from the District's political scene for this four year cycle is Councillor Murray Kristoff who decided not to seek another term of office.
Further notes on the Port Edward campaign can be reviewed through the District's Public Notice's pages.
You can access the social media streams and more notes on the campaign as it moves forward through our archive page here.
