City of Prince Rupert seeks public engagement through upcoming workshops on parks and recreation themes

An opportunity to take part in a workshop to help shape the future of Parks and Open spaces in the community is coming up next week and in October.

The workshop the latest element for Rupert Plays initiative.

A process that the city is using identify opportunities to enhance the pedestrian experience along trails and the waterfront, locations for new parks, parks to upgrade, and connections between parks, other destinations, and surrounding communities.

Another goal for the program is to enable Prince Rupert residents and visitors to more easily enjoy the natural beauty of Kaien Island.

As part of the engagement on this plan, the City and their consultants at Urban Systems are hosting visioning workshops on Thursday, September 29th, 5:30 - 7:00 pm and Wednesday, October 5th from 5:30pm-7:00pm over Zoom.

The city is reaching out to the community at large for input towards those future plans.

As the city explains it, the visioning workshop will focus on identifying strengths and challenges of existing parks and open spaces, and gather input for the vision, objectives, and recommendations of the Rupert Plays Plan. Where relevant, this may include mapping exercises.

As we outlined at the start of the month, the City's engagement work includes a survey which is still underway until September 30th offering residents a chance to share their thoughts on Recreation land use in the community.

You can learn more about that from the Rupert Talks portal.

The launch of the Parks and Recreation review was delayed a bit from its original start date.
