Five corners is the soon to be home for Crane's Crossing supportive housing in Prince Rupert |
Such has been the progress of late, that the North Coast Transition Society which will operate Crane's Crossing wrapped up a recruiting drive on Monday towards seeking a manager for the location.
No timeline towards the official opening was noted in their social media post, but NCTS did observe that they are in the 'later stages' of preparation toward opening the 46 unit Supportive Housing complex.
The facility also features a 28 bed temporary shelter, making for 74 beds for a community that is in much need of shelter these days.
The Crane's Crossing project was first announced in May of 2020, following the purchase of the old hotel by the province, one of a number of similar moves by the BC Government across British Columbia in recent years to take old hotel stock and turn it into social and supportive housing.
The repurposing of the building then worked its way through the city's zoning and permitting process for a portion of 2021 before the construction scheduled ramped up.
Earlier this year, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice had observed that the completion date for the project was anticipated to be in the summer, with a caveat that some structural challenges might push that opening into the fall.
The NCTS notes would suggest that the fall opening is the most likely period for move in for tenants.
