Prince Rupert's Days of Holiday Demolitions continue

The old Empress Hotel is no more, excavators making
for a weekend of demolition  on the Third Ave West site

The excavators rolled in around the dinner hour on Friday and by Sunday they had made some impressive work of what was once the old Empress Hotel ... the demolition of the once famous downtown hotel the latest of urban renewal for the 700 block of Third Avenue West.

How things looked on Friday afternoon, the structure
was taken down quickly over the weekend.

The work on the Empress comes following similar work across the street in recent months first with the fire ravaged Belmont Hotel site and more recently the completion of the removal of the fire debris from Rose's.

A project which earned city staff some praise from City Councillor Teri Forster at last week's Council Session.

One more unsightly property is up next for demolition, the City of Prince Rupert which now owns the property where the Angus Apartment is located on Second Avenue West, is in preparation for the tear down of that long standing burned out building.

That work now underway, though as was noted by the Corporate Administrator on Monday, with the site providing for some challenges for workers,  it will be a gradual tear down.

More notes on the past path towards the demolitions can be reviewed through our Council Discusison Archive.
