9-8-8 a new national helpline introduced to support those considering suicide

A new resource has been put into operation just ahead of this holiday period with a National Suicide Crisis Helpline now in operation to offer guidance hand help for those in distress across the nation.

The Government of Canada has provided $156 million over three years to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) to implement and operate the 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline

As of  November 30th , an experienced network of partners has trained responders have been standing by to answer 9-8-8 calls and texts.

In their announcement launching the new helpline, the Government noted that on average 12 Canadians per day have died as a result of suicide, that's close to 4,500 per year, something the new helpline is in place towards reducing.

The Federal government provided some background to the new help line, which also includes links to resources for those in need.

9-8-8 ... three numbers that could change a life.

If you  someone you know are in need, give the number a call. They are there to help.
