Work on the Ocean Centre Bus pullout continues as the completion date falls behind its original timeline |
An update on the project came out of Monday's City Council council session, as Councillor Gurvinder Randhawa made some enquiries towards its progress.
The task fell to the City's Operations Director Richard Pucci, who noted of a few surprises along the way for the contractors taking on the work.
"The Second Avenue is definitely over schedule when we scoped that project with Ministers of Transportation and Infrastructure we looked at where the utilities were and they were supposed to be in a certain place at a certain depth and unfortunately they were not.
So when we started going into that project we had to move some utilities with the utility providers, so that took the extra time.
I believe they are pouring curbs right now ... so we're on the homestretch, I'm not exactly sure when it will completed.
Unfortunately though I do have to say however, that the asphalt plant for the community is shut down for the year. So we are looking at some other options ... if not then we will have to maintain gravel in that area for the winter, unfortunately"
Work on the project got underway in Mid August, the work has at times reduced the number of east bound travel lanes on the busy throughway in the heart of the downtown core.
As noted by the Operations Director, the community asphalt plant operated by Adventure Construction has shut down its operations for the year, it will resume the production of blacktop in Spring 2023.
The explanation can be reviewed through the City's Video Archive starting at the one hour, 27 minute mark.
