SD52 Board of Education outlines committee appointments as newly elected Board takes to its duties

School District 52 has offered up a few glimpses of their work in November to date, releasing their decisions on which members of the Group from the October 15th election, have been appointed to what committees and other School Board assignments.

Of note from the November 8th session was the return to the chair for Kate Toye, who now is serving her third term as the Chair of the Board of Education.

From their November 15th session the Board noted of a program towards mindfulness taking place at Pacific Coast School, a period where there students are disengaged from all electronic devices and encouraged to focus on using their imagination towards learning new skills.

Students are clearly engaged in these mindfulness activities, even when it requires taking a risk to try something new. All of us can learn from their example --  Board Chair Kate Toye

The Board members also heard of a pilot project at Conrad Elementary which has seen the District receive funding for a Seamless Day Kindergarten.

The project which was planned for a November 21st launch will provide before and after school care to students in the kindergarten class. The care program  is one described as “seamless” as the before school caregiver will continue to work in the classroom for the morning.

The Board also noted of the upcoming Christmas Break which will take place from December 19 to January 2.

The School District process of posting their public sessions to their You Tube channel seems to be one that features a significant time delay, with the November.15th session still to be posted there.

The November 8th session is available below.

Though the audio quality suggests that the School District may want to put forward some spending towards a better recording system.

In somewhat of an ironic twist to the session, newly elected Trustee Michael Pucci's connection which came from Mexico, was far clearer than the one coming out of the School Board meeting space at the Booth Building.
