The announcement this week of a significant change for the North Coast Cruise industry has the local Tourism organization looking forward to what may come, with Tourism Prince Rupert officials
In our notes from Monday, we noted of the nature of the ten year agreement and the prospects of a significant increase in cruise related tourism that the arrangement may bring, with Global Ports Holdings observing of the potential of weekly cruise calls and up to 250,000 passengers coning through the Northland Terminal as their development for the industry moves forward.
Following Monday's introduction to Global Ports Holdings, the North Coast Review contacted Ceilidh Marlow the Executive Director for Tourism Prince Rupert, to get a view from the local side as to what the change may bring.
Tourism Prince Rupert is thrilled to welcome Global Ports Holding to Prince Rupert.
Prince Rupert has the potential to grow into a world-class cruise destination with our location inside the Great Bear Rainforest and the spectacular wildlife viewing, natural history, culture, and outdoor adventure opportunities we have to offer.
We will be working closely with the GPH team to help grow the cruise sector, develop the local amenities needed to support this growth, and ensure the community is involved at every stage.
Ms. Marlow also noted that Global Ports Holding's Kevin D'Acosta has already started reaching out to local tourism operators, it's anticipated that the organization will be expanding on their local presence in the New Year in anticipation of the 2023 tourism season launch.
