Nisga'a Nation outlines objections to proposed LNG plans for Anyox

A recent article in the National Post has caught the eye of the Nisga'a Nation, with Nisga'a Lisims Government officials noting of their concern over a recently promoted LNG terminal proposed for the nearby community of Anyox.

We first noted of the article from former Lax Kw'alaams Councillor Chris Sankey earlier this month.

His piece for the National Post newspaper, a reprint of an item he had originally submitted to the McDonald-Laurier Institute think tank.

The theme one of potential development for the LNG project and how it would deliver benefits and Indigenous alignment  in the region.

The article one which clearly solicited a view of hold on a second here on the Indigenous alignment theme. 

That from the Nisga'a Nation which observes that the NLG was not aware of any actual project being proposed and that the article in question had been published without  the Nisga'a Lisims Government 's knowledge or input.

The Response to the article comes by way of a Notice posted to the NLG website and social media stream on February 16th.

A page and a half  correspondence which takes both Mr. Sankey and the proponents the Granby Group to task for their lack of consultation with the Nisga'a Nation.

The final paragraph of the Nisga'a response highlights some of the challenges that my lay ahead for the proposed project, should the Granby Group look to move it forward.

NLG wishes to assure Nisga'a citizens that the Nisga'a Nation has no knowledge of the Proposed Project and that the Proposed Project will not proceed at a site within the Nass Wildlife Area without the Nisga'a Nation's consent and, at minimum, undergoing an environmental assessment that complies with Chapter 10 - Environmental Assessment and Protection of the Nisga'a Treaty.

As we observed at the time of the National Post article, there isn't a lot known about the Granby Group or their plans for the Anoyx site.  

There is little to no Internet presence for their LNG plans and there does not appear to be much in the way of preliminary work done to introduce the concept so far.
