Board members of North Coast Regional District met last week in Prince Rupert, their two days of discussions centred around the evolving Budget process, along with some key items of note on housing and some grant seeking for Haida Gwaii Emergency Services operations.
Towards the Housing Regional District will be forwarding a letter to Minister of Hosing Ravi Kahlon. The Board correspondence to seek expansion of the Secondary Suite Incentive Program (SSIP) to include all regional districts and that, if possible, the letter be a joint letter from all remaining regional districts currently not a part of the SSIP launch in April 2024.
When it comes to the Emergency planning themes, the Board will look to apply for the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Emergency Operations Centres Equipment and Training grant for back-up generators for the Sandspit Volunteer Fire Department and Tlell Volunteer Fire Department. The Board resolved to provide overall grant management for the project.
Board members also addressed how they will approach required renovations for their new property on Second Avenue West in Prince Rupert.
Towards that project, the Board has included a proposal to interfund borrow between NCRD capital reserves to fund renovations to a new administration building in 2024.
The proposed borrowing will be included in the 2024-2028 Financial Plan.

As well, as we noted previously today, Regional District has offered its support towards a City of Prince Rupert application for consideration of the City's Transportation Plan Connect Rupert for a provincial planning award.
