One of the largest School Boards in the province will serve as the project manager for new Prince Rupert Middle School Build, with the first tentative steps towards the new school now working its way through the BC Bid program.
The arrangement with SD39 in Vancouver is outlined in the Summary Details for the call for applicants from Construction Manager interested in the Pre-Qualification for Construction At Risk Services.

The Bid package provides some history towards the project noting how the current facility is not seismically safe and will be replaced by the new structure which is expected to be designed as a 2 or 3 storey structure.
It will make use of encapsulated mass timber within the construction of the School Gym and multi-purpose spaces.
Once built, the current school will be demolished and removed.
The playground and Music Room however will remain where they are and will be incorporated into the new facility footprint.
Towards a timeline for the project which has a budget estimated at 65 million dollars, the first sign of progress will come in 2024 which will be used mostly towards Design and Development permit work.

The first shovel in the ground should come not later than April of 2025, with a completion date noted as July 2027. Occupancy is hoped to take place in the new facility in September 2027.
Demolition would commence once the new school is in full operation.
The Vancouver School Board hosted the first online information session towards the call for Contract Managers yesterday, the Closing date for the Request for Qualifications comes up on Thursday, November 30.
