The Province will be putting us to the test this afternoon, with the semi annual check of our message receiving devices that could make the difference during an actual emergency.
The Test comes at 1:55 PM, when your phone text service will be activated as will radio and Television services will all present the following message:
This is a TEST of the BC Emergency Alert system. This is ONLY a TEST.
In an emergency, this message would tell you what to do to stay safe.
This information could save your life.
Visit www.emergencyinfobc.ca/test to learn more.
This is ONLY a TEST. No action is required.
Some additional background to how the province would issue a real Emergency Alert can be reviewed here.
As part of today's Test, the province is asking those who participate to take part in a survey related to the day's events.
British Columbians can face any number of threats through the year from earthquake and tsunami related events, to climate issues such as extreme storms, wildfires and flooding situations.
The Alert program is designed to provide British Columbians and visitors to the province with important information towards where to turn should disaster or emergency strike.
Last week the province outlined how the testing program would roll out today, as well as some key notes towards the program.
More background on themes from the Legislature can be reviewed here.
