The evolution of the city's Planning office continues forward, shifting from its contract hiring structure of just a few years ago, towards more of a traditional department set up.
The shift coming with a new Official Community Plan in place and a number of bylaw modifications taken care of, along with a range of vision plans delivered over the last few years.
With the City of Prince Rupert now looking to expand on its staffing in the Planning office, that through the hiring call for a Planning Manager.
The position was posted to the City of Prince Rupert website today, with the focus for the city on recruiting a Manager who will serve as a team mentor, who will enjoy coaching, developing, and leading junior planners and support staff to reach their full potential.

With the need for more housing of all kinds a key focus for the City these days, having the Planning Department at full staff and engaged in development of subdivision and housing stock, would seem to be a move that would go a long way towards addressing some of the major shortfalls in the community when it comes to housing.
Though as has been noted in the past, part of the issue isn't so much in the area of approval of housing projects, but getting the shovels into the ground.
As we've outlined over the years, a number of large proposed developments which may have helped head off the housing crisis in the community got sidelined over the last number of years; a situation that has now led to the city's current troubles when it comes to attracting residents and professionals to move to the region.
