The story of the Tug Ingenika makes for Union Video sounding the siren for more protection for maritime workers

An international maritime union is noting the sinking of the
tug Ingenika as part of their quest for tug worker safety

The tragic events of the Tugboat Ingenika on February 10th 2021 are the focus for a video from the International Transportation Federation which highlights the story of Troy Pearson and Charley Cragg in a call of attention to the dangerous conditions facing those who work the waters on Tug Boats.

The pair of mariners perished in the waters in Gardner Canal during the incident, a third member of their Crew Zac Doolan was discovered as part of the search for survivors and taken to hospital, he continues to recover from the incident.

The video calls attention to a range of concerns that the union has when it comes to what they describe as a towage industry in crisis.

In the video Judy-Carlick Pearson, Troy's widow provides the narrative to the story providing background to the work of the industry, the situation at the time of the incident and shares the sense of loss that the incident has brought to her and her son.

The video issues a call for more protection for those who work in the towage industry.

It is one of a number of maritime safety videos available from the ITF website.

The incident of 2021 remains under active investigation  by the Transportation Safety Board, but as of yet no Final Report has been delivered by the Federal Agency with no release date noted on the TSB website.
