The city of Prince Rupert has checked its maps and identified a few more areas where city owned land is now up for sale for those looking to develop housing for the community.
Two properties were put up for offer on April 20th, the first on Ninth Avenue West with an ask price of 560,000 dollars, the second on Prince Rupert Boulevard just off of Gull Crescent with an ask price of 1,208,000 dollars
Towards the land sale offer, the City notes the following advisory as to how they plan to handle the process.
The properties may be disposed of individually or in groups. It is strongly recommended that persons wishing to submit an offer use the form of Contract of Purchase and Sale prepared by the City of Prince Rupert, a copy of which may be obtained in the manner described below. Sealed offers must be submitted on or before 4:00 p.m. May 24th, 2022 to the address set out below and should be marked “Offer to Purchase City Property - 2022”.
City of Prince Rupert will open all offers on May 25th, 2022 and will select the offer for each property that, on its own or combined with other properties referred to in the offer, is in the best interest of the City of Prince Rupert, having regard to Purchase Price, Deposit, Completion Date, Purchaser’s Conditions and the form and proposed terms of the Contract.
Purchasers are responsible for any real estate fees or commissions payable in relation to the purchase of a property.

The April 20th land offering, marks the second wave of civic land which has been put up for sale for potential housing for the community.
As we outlined in March, City Council announced plans to transfer a large number of parcels of land to Legacy Incorporated for further distribution to would be property developers, a proposal that could free up land for hundreds of new homes in the community.
Two of the three parcels up for sale were dedicated for housing, in the 11th Avenue east area and off of Alpine Drive, a third, located off of Shawatlans Road was more likely to be of interest to light industrial developers.
So far Council has not provided any updates on the progress of that plan, or if there has been any interest presented to the City to this point for the potential housing solution for the region.
