Practice makes perfect for Tsunami Preparedness Week April 10-16

This Week British Columbians will be putting some focus on preparing for potential tsunami events, with Prepared BC hosting Tsunami Preparedness Week which takes place from today through to April 16.

While a rare occurrence, living where we do does come with some risk from the maritime impact of earthquakes or as we saw earlier this year from a volcano in far off Tonga.

As the City of Prince Rupert noted last week, much of Prince Rupert is already high ground when it comes to Tsunami risk, with only a few waterfront pockets of concern for local residents.

As part of their contribution to Tsunami preparation, the City has joined a number of other coastal communities for this week's Tsunami #HighGroundSelfie22 contest.

More on the City's participation in the project can be reviewed here.

North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, who is Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness also made note of this week's project through her social media feed over the weekend.

As for the provincial preparations, you can learn more about how to prepare for tsunami events with this helpful bit of guidance from the BC Government website.

A look back at past seismic and tsunami alerts can be explored here.

Cross posted from the North Coast Review.
