With a call from the Prince Rupert School District towards expanding on Indigenous representation on School Boards finding success at the 2022 gathering.
SD52 Board trustee Kristy Maier recently made note of the progress for the initiative through her social media page, the trustee reinforcing her enthusiasm for the motion.
The motion was one of a number of initiatives approved by the BC School Trustees Association, with the Prince Rupert led request noted here.
As part of the BCSTA recommendation they will now ask the Ministry of Education and Child Care and First Nations Education Steering Committee
explore means by which First Nations Representation can form a part of each Board of Education.
The BCSTA AGM took place from April 21-24 in Vancouver, you can explore more about the event here.
The topic made for an expansive and lively discussion for local school trustees back in January when it was first introduced by Trustee Maier, though at the time, no formal action was put in place to put the recommendation into action at the Prince Rupert School District.
The topic had not returned for much discussion up until the March monthly meeting, so far it's not known if it was part of the discussion from the April 19th Board meeting, as the video archive of the monthly session has yet to be delivered to the SD52 YouTube archive page.
More notes of interest on education in Prince Rupert and across the Northwest can be explored through our archive pages.
