MLA's Week: March 28-31, 2022

British Columbia's MLA's returned to the Legislature Chamber this week following a two week Spring break, the government side making for a push for some of their key legislation this session, while the Opposition Liberal and Green Party members challenged the government narrative on a number of themes.

Of note from this week was more momentum towards the province's push on adopting UNDRIP, with the Premier and a number of Indigenous leaders marking the roll out of the Action Plan towards the Declaration.

Friday also saw a historic moment from Rome, where Pope Francis issued an apology over the involvement of some Catholics with the Residential School system. The apology coming following a week of meetings with Indigenous delegations from Canada at the Vatican.

As for more on the recent week of work from the House, the four days unfolded as follows:

Ms. Rice also had comments outside of the Legislature this week following a funding announcement for Transportation services through the Friendship House, as well as at the launch of a new seismic recording project in British Columbia.

Tuesday Mr. Ross made note for the Legislature of plans moving forward for Dementia Care Facility for Kitimat.

The Skeena MLA also called attention to an ongoing situation of concern for the Terrace area, first by introducing  a delegation to the Legislature and then speaking of the visit led by Mayor Carol Leclerc to seek provincial help on a range of social and crime issues in the community.

Later in the Wednesday session just after 5PM, Mr. Ross spoke to his thoughts and concerns over the Wildlife Amendment Act. Much of his commentary explored the impact on First Nations, case law, rights and title and UNDRIP.
