The Prince Rupert Port Authority has singled out four companies that call on Prince Rupert for commercial shipping and transportation services for their commitment to the Port's Green Wave environmental program.
The Port program rewards shippers and transportation providers by offering discounted harbour feeds to those vessel owners who voluntarily have put in place sustainability practices. Commercial vessels are scored on air emission controls and underwater noise reduction measures and allotted savings through a tiered system.
Last year, there were 163 vessel calls that met the strict criteria to qualify for the Green Wave program, including ten different vessels that qualified for the top tier and earned the greatest savings on each call.
The four that were recognized for their performance in 2021 included: intermodal shipping companies COSCO Shipping Lines and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, liquefied gas shipping company Navigator Gas LLC, and BC Ferries.

The Green Wave program has been in place since 2013 and continues to adapt to address port sustainability and raise the bar for vessels to be eligible for recognition.
