The Prince Rupert Library has started 2022, much the same that 2021 ended, with the Library closed to the public owing to some building issues related to plumbing.
The update to the December woes was posted to the Prince Rupert Library Facebook page on Tuesday, with Library officials noting that the library will be open for curbside service only, from 10am to 5pm on Tuesday January 4, Wednesday January 5, and Thursday January 6.
A decision about Friday January 7 and subsequent dates has yet to be made by the Library and any decision will depend on the state of the building. They hope to provide an update towards the end of the week.
Library officials also provided a bit of background on the situation at the Sixth Avenue West House of Reading:
A drainpipe froze at the point that it exits the building, and water that came down from the roof backed up and found a weakness in a joint. This water coming from the ceiling has been stopped, but we are still unable to use the lights in a high traffic area, and on top of that there is now a bit of a hole between the first and second floors!
As you might imagine, local professionals already have their hands full dealing with the consequences of the freezing weather, yet they're helping us as fast as they can.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We hope to reopen fully soon.
