However you read it, the reviews are in on the Highways of the Northwest and the reviews are #%^$

The Drive BC Map from New Year's Day told the tale
of road advisories and closures around the Northwest

Whether your heading East or West, North or South, the consensus around the northwest is that highway conditions could be significantly better, that as successive snowfalls and cold weather events left roads in to varying descriptions from travellers,  mostly that of horrid it would seem.

As we outlined through the holiday period, Highway 16 between Prince Rupert and Terrace has been the subject of a number of weather related road advisories and even closed at times owing to Avalanche risk.

The challenges of Highway 16 travel is also the sole focus for a Facebook page that charts the road conditions, the resource becoming a go to option for travellers looking for some immediate heads up information.

The topic has made for a fair bit of media coverage in the last 24 hours from local newspapers and CFTK TV, with the coverage of the roads on Highway 16 from the coast to Terrace and in all directions from there.

The Prince Rupert to Terrace stretch was the  featured overview for the weekly paper Northern View, which outlined some of the observations from travellers; including word from Port Edward of plans from District officials to once again forward a correspondence to the Ministry of Highways and Transportation related to the road conditions.

That is something that has become somewhat of an annual communication plan from the North Coast, usually making for much in the way of conversation around this time of year as the conditions reach their worst.

On Thursday, TV 7 also had some extensive notes on the stretch of Highway 37 south between Terrace and Kitimat, a road that has been the subject of a number of advisories through the last few weeks.

While the Terrace Standard also had some themes to share on the concerns related to the Terrace-Kitimat corridor.

You can review some of the road stories from our archive page here.
