City of Prince Rupert delivers letters on Downtown Incentive program and Warnings on unsightly premises

Prince Rupert City Council is hopeful that recent Tax Incentives will
translate into revitalization of the city's downtown districts

With letters in the mail, the City of Prince Rupert has launched its twin efforts towards downtown revitalization, with a new downtown incentive program explained to landowners in the area as well as a notice that the City will now be moving forward on enforcement of measures towards unsightly premises.

As we outlined on the blog last month, the measures come following City Councils adoption of the Downtown Tax Incentive bylaw at their January 13th session, with the final approval coming at their 25th meeting.

The Tax Incentive program and promise to finally enforce property maintenance provisions made for just a few themes related to the downtown area discussed last month.

January 27 -- "It's time for us to take action; it's time for us to Clean up the town": Mayor Lee Brain
January 25 -- Parking analysis and recommendations for changes part of tonight's Council session
January 25 -- City's planning consultations to provide a range of reports for Council review this evening
January 13 -- After lengthy back and forth discussion, council members come to compromise on amendment for Downtown Tax Bylaw

The letters to local property owners look as follows:

A letter for property owners explaining the new
downtown tax incentive program

A letter for property owners advising of plans for enforcemnt
on property maintenance in the downtown area

The Mayor introduced the new programs through his Facebook page on Thursday, with those that follow his social media outreach providing some instant feedback on the programs, as well as some other significant concerns about the state of the downtown area.
