With Legislature on hiatus, Premier David Eby makes Cabinet shuffle

Grace Lore has been assigned the
challenging  post of Family and
Child Services Minister

Premier David Eby addressed some concerns related to the Ministry of Family and Child Services on Monday, with the BC NDP providing for a small  cabinet shuffle that will see Grace Lore take over the duties of the Ministry from now former Minister Mitzi Dean.

Minister Dean will now shift over to the Minister of State for Child care portfolio.

“I am immensely grateful to Grace, Mitzi and Andrew for taking on these new roles.

Child care is extremely important to families, it is a significant benefit to businesses, and it is quite simply critical to our entire province.

Minister Dean will be a tireless champion for B.C.’s first new major social program in a generation.

We have made considerable progress on the very difficult files within the ministry of children and family development, and I know that Minister Lore’s experience and passion will benefit young people and families.” -- Premier David Eby

Minister Dean's time in the Family And Child Services post was marked by a number of controversies and some at times tone deaf responses by the government to the concerns that were coming out of the ministry in the last few years.

And while the Legislature may not be in session, the moves of Monday did catch the attention of BC United leader Kevin Falcon, who noted of some of those concerns from the Ministry in recent months.

Also announced on Monday, was a post for Andrew Mercier  who will now serve as Minister of State for Sustainable Forestry Innovation that in support of the work of Bruce Ralston, the Minister of Forests,.

MLA George Chow also gets some new duties, that as the Parliamentary Secretary for International Credentials, building on recently passed legislation from the ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, which removes barriers for internationally trained professionals to work in British Columbia.
