MLA Jennifer Rice makes plans for Haida Gwaii tour later this month

With the holiday period over and the BC Legislature still on its winter hiatus, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice is getting back into the constituency groove with plans for a three day visit to Haida Gwaii later this month.

The MLA putting out the call for residents to book meetings with her through her social media stream on Tuesday.

The three day visit  from January 23-25 should find much for residents to chat about with the MLA, who is also the parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health.

Those health related duties may loom large for the agenda for discussion, that following a number of emergency room closures over the holidays owing to short staffing situations at medical facilities on the Islands.

Other items that may make their way into the conversation could be Ferry transportation, both on island and that  between Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert and maybe even Internet connectivity.

That is something the province has been hailing as a key element of their rural programs, though an initiative that is currently bringing some challenges for  CityWest which is responsible for the sub sea fibre connection between the Islands and the North Coast.

Among the comments noted on her advisory, is a call for a public meeting for the residents of Gaw Tlagee/ Old Massett.

The larger gathering one which would not only bring a wide cross section of comment from residents but put the MLA's responses on the public record for the Islanders.
