After a year period of consideration for its future direction, the hiring committee at Coast Mountain College didn't have to go too far to celebrate the hiring of a new President and CEO for the Terrace based college  which serves the northwest.

In an announcement today, Coast Mountain College named Doctor Laurie Waye to the post, her shift from interim to permanent coming after what the college describes as a rigorous interview and evaluation process..

The announcement of the hiring committee's decision was delivered by X’staam Hana’ax (Nicole Halbauer), Chair of the Board of Governors for CMTN.

“With Dr. Waye in the role of President and CEO, CMTN will be able to move forward with confidence and stability as we emerge from two years of pandemic and face new economic and social challenges as a college community. I am delighted to be working with such an accomplished and capable leader,”

Doctor Waye took on the interim duties following  leadership shift outlined in August of 2021 after the departure of former President and CEO Justin Kohlman; her time in the office providing some stability during the challenging period of the executive search.

For her part of today's announcement, the new Top executives for the college observed of her time with Coast Mountain College and the prospect of building for the future.

“I am honoured to be selected as President and CEO of Coast Mountain College. In my six years at CMTN I have been continually impressed by the dedication and creativity of the college community in providing quality, hands-on education, and ensuring safe and welcoming environments for our students. The college is an integral part of northern BC and I look forward to building those connections going forward.”

Today's news from Terrace has gained some very positive response from across the region through the Coast Mountain Facebook page.

In addition to the Main Terrace Campus, Coast Mountain College also has campus locations in Hazelton, Smithers, Haida Gwaii and the downtown campus location on Fifth Street in Prince Rupert.

Locally, one of the priorities for the new President and CEO to explore is the need for campus housing for the Prince Rupert campus, which features a significant student body who are not from the Prince Rupert area, with many of them International students.
