ILWU applications make for lottery opportunity for local communities

The latest window to seek employment on the Prince Rupert waterfront has arrived with a phased distribution of ILWU 505 long shore applications underway.

It's a call for potential employees that will see over 300 applications dispersed across the region in this current period.

Local First Nation communities have also been issued dedicated spaces and such is the interest in the community posts that are available towards the application process for Metlakatla and Lax Kw'alaams  that a lottery process has been put in place.

The Metlakatla Deadline for applications is today, While Lax Kw'alaams deadline comes tomorrow.

In their information packages for member, both First Nation governments make note of the range of requirements that would be long shore workers should know prior to making application for the positions.

Members can review those notes and learn more about each application process below

The information notes also outline that the applications do not guarantee a job and that in the early days of the introduction to the workforce, the hours may be limited and the work demanding depending on where the workers are assigned.

Once accepted for training, those who have made it through the application process will first be assessed at the testing area that has now relocated to the Canadian Fish Plant yard.

The ILWU has set up their mock up of a container yard and log sort facility at the plant on George Hills Way after relocating from the Curling Club at Seal Cove earlier this year.
