Government of Canada offering assistance to help former International students in response to COVID impact

A program currently in place from the Federal Government is ready to offer assistance to International Students in Canada who have been affected by COVID-19 or hold or held a post-graduation work permit.

As of January 27, 2021, foreign nationals in Canada with an expired or expiring PGWP will have a one-time opportunity to apply for another open work permit with a duration of 18 months. Applications will be accepted until July 27, 2021.

Word of the program was first shared in the Northwest by Coast Mountain College which helped get the word out on the program through their social media streams this week.

Three of the Coast Mountain Campus locations, Smithers, Terrace and Prince Rupert have benefitted from an influx of International Students in each community

As we noted  one year ago,  many of the International students have taken on employment in Prince Rupert and have served to help many area businesses address their growing staffing situations
