SD52 receives $1.2 Million in funding for Ventilation and Air Conditioning work on Prince Rupert Schools

The BC Government has rolled out another round of funding for maintenance related work on schools across the province and for SD52 that mostly means work on HVAC systems at two schools in Prince Rupert.

The funding, announced on Wednesday, is part of the School Enhancement Program it comes out of the recent 2023 Provincial Budget.  

The scope of the work is varied from plumbing and electrical work to the purchase of new school buses

In total the Province is providing $261.1 million in 2023-24 for school maintenance projects, including $41 million to upgrade heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems at 101 schools throughout B.C.

“We are making historic investments in school capital projects across the province. Schools are the cornerstones of our communities, and our government is continuing to invest in our school infrastructure to ensure that our kids have clean, safe, modern places to learn, grow and play.” -- Rachna Singh, Minister of Education. 

The provincial government focus on cleaner air in the schools was expanded on in a second information release as part of yesterday's funding.

Much of the funding for the Prince Rupert School District will be
directed towards CHSS, with some going to Roosevelt Park Elementary

For SD52 the work will mostly be focused on Charles Hays Secondary School with some work planned for Roosevelt Park Elementary

Around the Northwest, the Nisga'a School District gained the largest amount of funding from the list of money for School Districts released by the Province on Wednesday.

Those listings included:

Nisga'a School District  -- $1,850,000
Bulkley Valley School District -- $1,789,298
Nechako Lakes School District -- $1,644,298
Coast Mountain School District -- $1,407,000
Central Coast School District -- $975,000 
Stikine School District -- $816,000 
Hadia Gwaii School District -- $760,000
