The TV7 base in Prince Rupert continues to be an all but abandoned office, with no reporter on the beat for the North Coast |
Bell Media in Terrace is slowly rebuilding its news team for their TV7 new offerings, but as they do, the focus for news certainly hasn't strayed too far from the Lazelle Avenue studios.
Some of that was owing to the fact that news anchor, Brandon Cassidy was seemingly the only employee covering the entire region for a few months, while putting together a nightly newscast. leaving little time for actual reporting.
That left more than a few gaps in the news-gathering efforts and for the most part, it's been the communities outside of Terrace that have seen the decline of coverage of local events and news the most.
There has been some pick up on the volume of news stories presented in recent months, that following the arrival of Cael Maslin in January, who went over to Television from his most recent work with CFNR.
But much of his reporting as can be reviewed through the TV7 Social Media stream so far has focused on the Terrace/Kitimat area for the most part.
At the moment the priority for TV7 would seem to be to bring a News Director onboard, that position makes for the only career ad on the Bell Media board for the Northwest at the moment.

There's no indication when, or if, Bell Media will once again fill the position in Prince Rupert that once provided for some local coverage of events on the North Coast. There is lots happening on the North Coast and most of it seems to fall off the media radar in all of its formats.
A lack of an information relay that leaves many residents relying on social media it seems for most of their news; a forum which while useful in connecting residents of the region, does not offer up an in-depth look at issues that should be important to the community.
TV7 last had a dedicated reporter for Prince Rupert back in the fall of 2022, when Eddie Huband reported from the North Coast, he departed for CKPG TV in Prince George in October of last year.
That's a fairly long stretch off the radar for the North Coast and something that should be addressed by Bell Media if they want to continue promoting themselves as "Northwest BC's only television news team."
