Toxic Drug Alert issued for the Nass Valley

Northern Health and First Nations Health  have issued another Toxic Drug Alert for the Northwest, with residents of the Nisga'a Valley Region hearing of concerns over substances that have been noted in the area

No specific substance has been identified , the Alert was issued after an increase of overdose events in the Nisga'a Valley in recent days.

The alert comes as those in the Nass Valley prepare to celebrate Hobiyee, the Nisga'a New Year.

There has been an increase in paramedic attended toxic drug poisoning events in the Nisga’a Valley region in Northwest, BC.

The majority of drug poisoning events identified by BCEHS (BC Emergency Health Services) are nonfatal, but there is a risk of drug poisoning death when such events occur.

Towards safety for community members, the two health authorities have shared some important notes on Overdose prevention measures and resources that are available.

Some additional guidance towards identifying and responding to an overdose can be reviewed here.

More notes on Health themes across the Northwest can be found from our archive page.
