Nuxalk Nation Totem Pole begins journey of repatriation

After over a century, the Nuxlak Nation Totem Pole is
on its way back home to its home territory

Monday marked the start of an important week for the Nuxalk Nation, with the process of repatriation underway to return a Totem Pole taken from the territory in 1912 back to its home.

The journey began yesterday at the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria where the totem has been in storage in recent years, the progress coming from an original call of 2019 from Hereditary Chiefs for a return and a subsequent lawsuit.

North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice has been part of the events from the weekend and Monday and provided a sense of the moment through her social media feed on Monday,.
