Prince Rupert among 74 communities to receive funding on Active Transportation efforts

The City of Prince Rupert will be receiving some additional funding from the province towards its work on an Active Transportation Plan.

The city one of seventy four communities in the province to gain access to some provincial government money towards their efforts.

“We know that people will choose active transportation more often when there is safe and accessible infrastructure for it in their communities. We’re investing in new and improved infrastructure to give families more options, which will benefit generations of British Columbians and help us meet our climate goals.” -- Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Towards its ongoing work, the City of Prince Rupert is receiving $50,000 to support incorporating active transportation in the city’s new transportation plan.

The information release from the province today notes of the design and reconfiguration plan for Second Avenue West as its focus point for today's announcement.

In follow up comments towards today's announcement,  North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice noted that more people in Prince Rupert will be able to safely and conveniently choose active transportation to get around.

That thanks to the provincial funding for new active transportation planning.

She also observed on how Prince Rupert was a strong candidate for the investment  that the province is putting into Transportation.

“Prince Rupert is one the most compact cities in the North Coast, making it an excellent candidate for active transportation infrastructure.

For these reasons, I'm pleased that our BC New Democrat government is investing in the city's new active transportation plan "
