Metlakatla to receive funding towards transportation study

The Metlakatla First Nation is one of thirteen First Nations to gain funding for projects for 2020-21 from the British Columbia Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative, which has allocated close to 2.8 million dollars to a range of programs.

In the case of Metlakatla, 39,250 dollars has been directed towards plans for a feasibility study on the potential of an electric or hydrogen ferry for the community.

On the Central Coast, the Heiltsuk Tribal Council will be using 150,000 dollars in grant funding in support of a heat pump installation.

Close to 40 First Nation groups applied for the available funding for the intake,  which is provided to the BCICEI through provincial and federal sources.

The money is designated for use towards Indigenous led clean energy projects.
