Stage is set for campaigning as Metlakatla announces nominations

Twelve names in total are standing in nomination for this years Metlakatla First Nation election which will take place on Friday August 28th, which will elect a Chief Councillor and six council members to office for a four year term.

Long serving incumbent Chief Councillor Harold Leighton will face a challenge this summer, with Randall Cobb having his named placed in nomination for the top position with the Metlakatla Governing Council.

Four names stand in nomination for the office of On Reserve Councillor, they include Alvin Leask, Sharon Morven, James L. Nelson and Robert Nelson.

Six other names are in nomination for the office of in territory councillor, those seeking office include Wayne Haldane, Karen Jeffry, Alrita Leask, Miranda Leighton, Darci R. Nelson, Cynthia Smith.




When election day arrives in late August there will be two polling stations available for voters to make use of, the primary polling station in Metlakatla Village, as well as a secondary polling station in Prince Rupert at the Coastal Training Centre on Dunsmuir Street.
