Port of Prince Rupert, Industrial partners back in court as environmental cases move forward

The Port of Prince Rupert and a range of industrial partners all have
court appearances on the list today in Prince Rupert

The Prince Rupert Court House register for today features mostly port related court cases this morning, with two court rooms featuring court proceedings relate to  environmental charges.

At 9:30 this morning, the courtroom of Judge Mrozinski featured the latest chapter of the proceedings related to charges related to the Port's Open burn on Ridley Island of 2017.

That industrial burn sent plumes of black smoke into the air, impacting residents of the Port Edward area and resulted in the Port issuing an apology related to the event.

That has been an ongoing court case with yesterday's testimony featuring a number of witnesses providing their remembrances of the day in question and in some cases how it directly affected them.

Today also finds the Port of Prince Rupert, along with Bel Pacific Excavating and Shoring,  DP World and Fraser River and Pile  to answer to a range of charges related to work that took place as part of the Fairview Terminal expansion project.

The start of those court proceedings dates back to 2018 and followed an investigation by DFO into the environmental impact on the fish habitat located near the expansion site.
