Progress for site development for Lax Kw'alaams Housing project on 11th Avenue East

The work site off of 11th Avenue east has seen some increased activity over
the last few weeks, with road construction into the site and land clearing
picking up at the Lax Kw'alaams apartment site

The last few weeks have seen some significant work taking place at the site location for what is a much anticipated affordable housing  complex, with two roads being created to lead down to land clearing activities off of  11th Avenue East.

A staging area at Edwards Avenue and a newly widened road just to the west of that area provide for the work so far, the project somewhat delayed from its original timeline.

The last update on the plans from Lax Kw'alaams came in May as part of a review of a number of initiatives underway for the Lax Kw'alaams community.

The Housing plans were outlined by Harvey Russell Junior who noted at the time that COVID and rising costs had provided for some of delays towards the 70 unit apartment complex on Prince Rupert's east side.

While the hectic work site of late indicates that the project has moved forward, so far, the Lax Kw'alaams WAAP Society  has not outlined any further notes towards a timeline for the project.

The notes of May can be reviewed here, while some of the history towards the housing plan can be explored through our Prince Rupert 2030 Vision Tracker Archive .

More notes on housing themes in Prince Rupert can be reviewed here
